The Misemono-Yatai is a mobile German-Japanese exhibition space for contemporary art in public space, presented in Germany for the first time at mowe Festival 2026. With its highly visible, smiling architecture — inspired by Japanese street vendor stalls as social meeting points — the yatai invites festival visitors, neighbors, and passersby to discover art beyond institutional contexts and engage in conversation. Founded in Tokyo in 2012 by Berlin-based artist Tatjana Preuss, the Misemono-Yatai relocated to Berlin in 2024, following a tour through western and central Japan.

Inside the yatai, the group show “Chimata – Crossing Paths”, developed during the tour, is on view. Visitors are invited to discover works by 19 artists in the display cases, drawers, and gallery boxes of the mobile project space. The exhibition includes video works, photographs, objects, installations, paintings, drawings, collages, books, and participatory projects. With contributions by: Moe Amano, Ida-Simone, Aquiles Hadjis, Jun Iizuka, Tokie Ito, Toyomi Kamegawa, Anna-Sophie Lewerenz, Yotaro Niwa, Jak Peters, Zoe Porter, Misty Scrimgeour, Marisa Seguin, Atsushi Suzuki, Shogo Takahashi, Kyoco Taniyama, Chiharu Tezuka, Mei Watanabe, Charlotte Whiteside, Markus Zimmermann

On Sunday from 3PM, Berlin project space stay hungry will present their food event Mobile Menu #18 v2 “Edible Stones”. This is a re-run of an event held at YUI-PORT in Niigata in January 2024 – in collaboration with Niigata artist and Mountain Grocery owner yoyo.
